Costs vary dramatically based on the project. However, in South Carolina, the average price for a residential solar installation sits around $2.67 – $3.67 per watt installed. For the average home and solar system in the state, this puts the total cost somewhere between $13,350 and $18,050.
Keep in mind – this total is before any incentives, which can take off up to 75% of the total cost. We work with all our customers to provide an accurate estimate of the solar panel installation cost once you factor in incentives, so you know exactly what your system will cost before you commit to anything.
Yes! There are two government subsidies and incentives that you should be aware of as a South Carolina resident considering solar energy. There’s the Federal Tax Credit and the South Carolina State Tax Credit.
The Federal Tax Credit (sometimes called the ITC) is a 26% federal tax credit towards your system’s cost. This rate will be dropped to 22% in 2021 and completely wiped by 2022, so you’ll want to take advantage of this while it’s still active.
The other government incentive is the South Carolina State Tax Credit, which allows South Carolina residents to take 25% of the total cost of their solar installation and apply it as a tax credit towards their tax liability. This is a maximum of $3,500 every year or 50% of your liability.
If all these incentives make your head spin – no worries, we help our customers find all their eligible rebates and incentives to make sure they save as much money as possible when making the switch to solar energy.
As we mentioned in the above question, there are two government rebates: the Federal Tax Credit and the South Carolina State Tax Credit. Additionally, there are a couple of other incentives to consider.
Two South Carolina electric providers offer their own rebates for installing solar. Duke Energy will pay you $1.00 for every watt of solar power you install on your home. This amount is around $6,000 on average. For Santee Cooper customers, they offer $1.30 per watt of solar power installed, as high as $5,200. In other words, if you’re with one of these two power companies – they’ll help you pay for your solar installation in the form of rebates.
South Carolina’s power companies also offer net metering, which can save you money in the long run, helping you pay for your system over time. As far as financing goes, there are several types of loans to making going solar possible.
When your system produces extra energy that you don’t need, you earn credits. Each year, you can turn those credits in and get paid by your energy company. South Carolina doesn’t cap this program either! Right now, and through June 2021, you get paid for all your extra energy every year, thanks to South Carolina’s net metering policy.
There’s no straightforward answer to this question. The amount of energy a system can produce relies heavily on the amount of sun the panels see and the system’s overall size. Based on state averages and an average residential system size of 5 kWh, a 5 kWh system will produce 8,760 kWh every year in South Carolina.
The average solar payback period (the time it takes to earn back your initial investment in savings) is 7.95 years in South Carolina. That’s less time than the national average of just over eight years
The cost of a solar battery system in South Carolina depends on numerous factors. However, the average price ranges from $11,000 – $18,000 (including all necessary equipment and installation fees).
No! Getting a solar battery is completely optional. It’s a matter of personal preference and goals. You don’t have to get a solar battery to enjoy solar energy benefits – but you definitely can if you want to!
We’ll take care of this for you. There are numerous panels available on the market. We work with several established manufacturing partners and ensure our customers only get the highest quality solar panels on the market.
The longest part of the process will be the planning phase, which includes all the measurements, paperwork, and more. However, the installation itself doesn’t take very long at all. In fact, our average installation is usually complete in only three days!
